Woman: Did you know, I’ve just booked our tickets for New Zealand?

Man: No, really? Oh, how fabulous! You’ll love it!

W: Yes, I’m sure we will. The thing is, I thought you could give me a few tips - you know, if there’s anything we ought to avoid, or take with us, that sort of thing.

M: Ah, let me see. Well, there are a couple of things.

You see, it’s one of the safest countries to travel in, and the people are really helpful and friendly, but there’s quite a bit of wildlife I mean, sharks swim off the beaches, you know.

W: Oh dear! Do they actually attack people?

M: No, hardly ever.

But if you come face to face with one when you’re diving, the best thing is just to swim quietly away. [Mmm] Ah, and with jellyfish, it’s a good thing to avoid them if you can. They can sting you quite badly.

W: Oh dear! What else is there to look out for?

M: Well, there’s a nasty little spider that’s poisonous.

You probably won’t actually die if it bites you …

W: Oh, that’s a relief!

M: But you’ll have to go to hospital. It has a shiny black body with a red patch on, so watch out for that.

W: We might do a bit of camping, so we’ll have to be careful where we put our tent.

M: Yes, and the other thing is that you shouldn’t really leave anything valuable lying around in your car. You know I was there last summer? [Mmm] Well, my suitcase was stolen from the back of the car, [Oh] with my jacket, and radio, and camera. It made life pretty difficult for a few days!

But that kind of thing can happen anywhere when you’re travelling.

W: Oh, yes. We’ll take out insurance anyway, of course.
