Jane Fletcher: Hello, can I help you?

Teacher: Oh hello. Um, is that, er, Mill House Barns?

JF: It’s Mill House Farm, but we own the barns, yes.

T: Oh, um, you’re the owner, Mrs …?

JF: Jane Fletcher, Mrs Jane Fletcher, F.L.E.T.C.H.E.R.

T: Right, thanks. Well, I’d like to book a largeish group of students from York High School into the barns for a few nights in July, um, if the price is reasonable.

JF: We charge £4 a night per student.

T: Oh, well that’s very good. What does that include exactly?

JF: Well, all the facilities are very basic. The barns are big clean areas, with wooden floors, so there’s lots of space to sleep. No bathrooms or hot water of course!

Just cold water for washing.

T: I see - a bit of a shock for the students! Um, and what about food?

JF: They do their own cooking. They’ll have to bring sleeping bags and their own food with them.

T: Right, it sounds great!

Well, I’ve got 40 students.

JF: 14, did you say?

T: No, 40. And, um, we’d want to stay for three nights, er, or is it four? No, I was right the first time.

JF: When exactly would this be?

T: From the 17th to the 19th of July, leaving on the 20th

JF: Yes, we can manage that. What time will you be arriving?

T: Um, oh, It depends. 2.30, I should think. No, er, more like 3 in the afternoon.

JF: It’ll cost you £480 then, and we’d like you to pay by cheque, six weeks before you come. York high school, you say? I’ve put it down in my book.

T: That’s fine, it’s just what we want. Um, thank you very much, Mrs. Fletcher, and I’ll be in touch just as soon as … .
