used to + a verb

It means something has happened in the past

but it doesn’t happen anymore.

For example:

He used to workout 2 hours a week,

but he doesn’t anymore.

When I was a kid

I used to do fishing all the time.

I used to ask him why he didn’t talk like he wrote.

used to + adjective

For example:

I used to be very happy before getting married,

But now I’m miserable.

My English used to be very bad,

He used to be bad, and now he is good.

to be + used to

It means to be accustomed or adjusted to something

or be familiar with.

The formula is:

To be + used to + ing verb

For example:

I’m used to not having breakfast.

He’s used to talking too much on the phone.

I’m used to reading about this kind of thing.

Get used to is related and it means

become accustomed

adjusted or familiar with something.

I wish I could get used to getting up earlier.

My son has to get used

to going to kindergarten soon.

They should get used to being unemployed.

Now used to

This may be the same

but it’s completely different.

It means to use or utilize something for a purpose.

A saw is used to cut things.

A calculator is used to compute things.

That gun was used to kill detective.

Now there is a sentence that uses
